HIMANYC remains committed to advancing the professional growth and educational experiences of its members. Following the successful sponsorship of two student members who attended AHIMA25 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last year, HIMANYC continued its focus on expanding opportunities within the Health Information Management (HIM) profession.

This year, through a special online contest, HIMANYC member Janelle Alexandre, RHIA won an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the NYHIMA Annual Conference held at Vernon Downs Casino Hotel in Vernon, New York. The conference provided an outstanding opportunity for professional development, networking, and exposure to emerging trends impacting the HIM field.

Reflecting on her experience, Janelle shared:

“I found the NYHIMA conference to be both inspiring and highly informative. I gained valuable knowledge about personal health and wellness, as well as Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) and topics relevant to the Health Information Management (HIM) profession.

One of the highlights of the conference was connecting with like-minded professionals who share similar concerns about the future of HIM. Another takeaway was the continued importance of ‘education, education, education’ as the key to staying ahead of the curve, along with a willingness to embrace change as the healthcare landscape evolves.

Overall, the conference was an enjoyable experience. I left with new knowledge, fresh perspectives, meaningful connections, and, of course, a great swag bag!

Thank you to my mentor, Jordan Maliavsky, for recommending that I attend the NYHIMA conference and to the HIMANYC Board of Directors for making this trip possible!”

Janelle’s experience highlights the value of continued learning, networking, and professional engagement within the HIM community. As healthcare continues to evolve, opportunities such as the NYHIMA conference help members stay informed, connected, and prepared for future challenges and opportunities.

HIMANYC is proud to support initiatives that enhance member experiences and foster professional growth. Members are encouraged to stay tuned for upcoming communications regarding opportunities to attend AHIMA26, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas, from October 4–6, 2026. Additional details on member sponsorship and participation opportunities will be shared in the coming months.

By investing in its members today, HIMANYC continues to strengthen the future of the Health Information Management profession.
